The work of Rafael Palacio Illingworth
Rafael Palacio Illingworth is a filmmaker living and working in Europe. Having spent his youth in Mexico and Colombia, Rafael travelled to Los Angeles to attend the American Film Institute Conservatory, where he was awarded the Filmanthropy Foundation Award and the Daniel Petrie Scholarship for his achievements in directing.
His first feature film, MACHO, won Best Micro-Budget Feature at Raindance Film Festival in the UK, and was acquired for worldwide distribution by IFC Films. His short film MAN IN A ROOM premiered in competition at the 67th Venice International Film Festival and was an official selection at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, Leeds International Film Festival in the UK, and Gijón International Film Festival in Spain. His AFI thesis film GUERRILLA GARDEN was an official selection at the Dallas International Film Festival, the World Film Festival in Montreal, and the Raindance International Film Festival. Rafael has also directed several music videos for the Swiss/German pop group BOY, as well as a national campaign for Sprite and a documentary for Coca-Cola in Mexico.
His second feature film, Between Us, premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival and was acquired for distribution for IFC Films. It was selected as the opening night gala film for the 2016 Torino Film Festival.
Rafael is currently working on his third film, EL GAUCHO, for which he was awarded a development fund from Ibermedia. The film will be shot in Argentina in early 2018.
In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Rafael is a talented GIF artist and painter.
